This humurous book was written before Charles and Diana were divorced. It pokes fun at the Royal Family and will make you chuckle. A new Prime Minister and government are elected into power. One of their campaign promises is to oust the Royal Family and start using the money needed to sustain them in more "beneficial" ways for the country. Since they have no paying jobs now, the families are given two homes in the equivalent of American projects. Charles, Di, and the boys have one home. The Queen, Prince Philip, the Queen Mother, and Anne share another next door. Since they have always had things done for them, the adjustment is beyond their belief. Even their upper crust accent is not well understood by their cockney neighbors. The Queen cannot open the door for the social worker because she cannot unstick it. This book is a fun read. I enjoyed it, and commiserated with the Royal Family at the same time. Talk about culture shock! |
