Highland FlingNancy Mitford
This novel is about bored British uppercrust young adults in late 1920's England. They cannot understand the Great War. They do not have much ambition or direction. There were times when I chuckled at the descriptions of people or their reaction. For the most part, it was boring with little point. The characters did not have much direction in their lives, and in my opinion, the book did not have much direction either. There is one scene I found interesting. While up in Scotland with his friends, the main male character, Albert, gets into a philosophical conversation with an ex-military man about the benefits of war. This book was originally published in 1931. That conversation could have taken place ten years after any war in this century. This book is out of print and currently not available through |
