The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank

General Fiction and Poetry 1/8/2004 Rating: 5 Scrolls

After World War II, American city dwellers started moving out to suburbia. Erma and Bill Bombeck joined the station wagon train, packed up their three children, and moved out of the city. They now own their own home, the PeeWee model, on their own plot of grass, with a one-car garage. Let the games begin!

Erma Bombeck takes everyday American family in the 1960's and 1970's and adds her charm and humor. She had the eye for the every day issues, making us face them, and laughing at ourselves. This novel is a gem - whether she is looking at volunteerism, getting a dog, taking a vacation, or caring for a lawn. The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank is a short book that will make you laugh.

Although this book was written 30 years ago, the family issues could easily fit in today. Her husband spends all his time in front of television sports. She attends "suckerware" and other home parties. Her children are busy being kids - playing with their friends, joining Little League, and leaving their bicycles laying in the front yard. Read a chapter, close your eyes, and put yourself there. It doesn't matter when - it's the what that matters. This book is still timely for American suburban family life.

The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank is a wonderful book. Enjoy, relax, and laugh at yourself.
