Everything to Gain

Barbara Taylor Bradford

blank space11/7/2000

Mallory Keswick has the perfect life. She has a husband she loves who loves her, twin six-year-olds, an apartment in New York City, and a weekend farm in Western Connecticut. She is happy being a wife and mother and part time artist. She has supportive friends and family. She knows how lucky she is.

Unfortunately, one senseless act changes everything. Her life is devestated. She now has to rebuild herself and her family. Mal is not certain she will be able to continue.

This is an excellent novel. The prologue reveals that something horrendous has happened to Mal's family. The first half of the book builds up how fortunate her life is. Then disaster strikes. The second half recounts how she deals with all the changes.

I found myself empathisizing with Mal. I have not had this type of tragedy occur close to me. Yet it was easy to identify with the emotions Ms. Bradford describes for Mal. She does an excellent description of the devestation and sense of loss. This is one of those books that had tears rolling down my cheeks.
