At the end of Bridget Jone's Diary, Bridget has started a new relationship. Now she has to solidify it before her "friend" Rebecca decides he's the perfect man for her life instead of Bridget's. Bridget has tons of self help books and her loyal friends, the single Shaz and Jude, and the married Magda. Bridget chronicles the next year after her famous diary. Her angst in increased rather than decreased despite the wonderful man in her life. (I don't want to name him if you haven't read the first book.) She judges her relationship through her books and her friends. Her boss is on drugs and making her work life more and more chaotic. She decides to start a new job as a freelance journalist by interviewing Colin Firth. Too bad she can't get past his movie Pride and Prejudice and his dive into the water rather than his new movie she is supposed promote. And her life gets stranger, especially after she is arrested for trying smuggle drugs out of Thailand. Unfortunately, Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason tries to imitate the tone of the first book and falls short. Instead Bridget is clueless and dumb. For a "secure in herself" woman, she is ridiculous - a little explanation would save a lot of grief. This reminds me of the romance novels where the heroine is too dense to realize the hero loves her. She finally gets her life together, but the process is wearing for the reader.
