Anne of Green GablesLucy Maud Montgomery
Anne Shirley is an orphan in Canada in the early 1900's. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert want to adopt a boy, but Anne is brought to them instead. They were going to return her. But something in Anne caught their hearts. They instead keep her. Their quiet, farming lives on Prince Edward Island are in for many changes. Anne has an imagination that could fill a library. She hates her red hair. She can talk incessantly. She can be so quiet at times it can unnerve someone who is with her. She is opinionated. She has a temper she does not always control. She finds herself in the middle of disasters continuously. She is a loving, faithful friend and daughter. She is a hard worker, especially at her school work. Anne Shirley is a much loved character. She is charming, mischevious, loving, and stubborn. The reader cannot help but get involved in her life. Anne of Green Gables is a classic children's story that does not wear on the adult. Many of us read it over and over and over and over... My daughter borrowed it on tape when she was not allowed to read due to some medical problems. I loved sitting in the car listening to the story again. It's a wonder I made it to work. If you have never read Anne of Green Gables, take the time. Anne is a person not to be missed!
