Naked in Death by J.D. Robb
Naked in DeathIt is New York City in the second half of the 21st century. Eve Dallas is a hard boiled homicide detective for the city police. She has been called in on a gruesome sexual murder scene. A conservative Senator’s granddaughter is the victim. The note left behind indicates there will be more murders to come.
Eve is investigating a crime amidst strong political pressure. Highly placed people have been involved with the victim. This includes the mysterious Roarke, one of the wealthiest men in the country. Eve knows an immovable force when she meets one, but she doesn’t accept it. He will not accept that she could suspect him of the murder. They clash, wishing they could ignore the attraction they feel.
Another paid escort is found dead in the same manner as the first. Other than the style of murder, there seems to be no connection between the two. The murderer promises four more like those. Eve keeps digging, trying to figure out who is the city’s newest serial killer. The clues still keep pointing to Roarke.
The heroine fits the hardboiled detective description. J.D. Robb is developing a picture for America in the mid 21st century. Eve is a rough character that has a soft spot she keeps hidden. Naked in Death is the beginning of a series.
