Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede

Dealing with Dragons Dealing with DragonsPatricia C. Wrede; Scholastic 1992WorldCatPrincess Cimerone is bored. She does not want to learn dancing or protocol, does not want to marry a prince. She wants to learn fencing, magic, and Latin. Finally her parents take her to an adjoining kingdom to marry the prince. She runs away.

Most dragons get a princess by kidnapping them. Kazul instead had Cimerone offer her services. Once Kazul understands Cimerone is serious, they work out a deal. When knights and princes try to rescue her, Cimerone turns them away. She is happier being a dragon’s princess rather than returning to her boring home. Then Cimerone discovers something more is going. Will she be able to help Kazul save the dragons?

This is a cute fantasy that was marked young adult. I don’t think the audience should be that old – it would fit nicely for the ten year old and pre-teen group. It’s fun, fluff and enjoyable fantasy.
